Lexar Professional Series 8 GB 133x Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card SD8GB-133-381 Review

I have several brands of 8 GB cards for my Nikon d80 – this one, a Sandisk Extreme III and the Transcend sold here at Amazon. Of the three, this one is the fastest. If you shoot continuous frequently, you’re going to want this one on hand, as it has the shortest lag time I’ve seen. Reviewing shots is instantaneous, and download to your computer is lightning fast.

I shoot quite a lot, and in my experience before buying the Lexar, you get a shot that just won’t read properly off of the card every 1000 shots or so on average. Not so with the Lexar, been using it about 7 months, probably 8000+ shots and no errors whatsoever.

You’re going to pay a premium for this one, but it pays off in reliability and speed. My other cards have been on backup duty (and are very bored).

Choosing a digital voice recorder that fits your needs can be a little bit challenging. Prices on Digital Voice Recorders can range anywhere from $50 to $500. Some users just need to record memos while others will use a recorder for professional dictation and transcription.  To help you make a better decision we have compared the differences between consumer models and professional models. 

Professional Digital Voice Recorders

1) Professional recorders are all able to connect to a PC.  Files are usually downloaded through a USB cable, docking station, or a card reader.

2) Professional Digital Recorders allow you insert audio into an existing file.  Professional recorders enable you to assign an author ID and work type to an audio recording.

3) These models usually use some form of removable media such as an SD card or a memory stick, this allows for greater storage. This provides more convenience for a professional user because users can send the memory card to a transcriptionist instead of turning over the whole recorder.

4) Professional recorders generally have additional recording modes such as HQ and Stereo modes which provide better recording quality.

5) Many professional recorders are compatible with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.  You are able to connect the recorder to the PC software and when you press play it will type out what has been dictated into recorder.

Consumer Digital Voice Recorders

1) Some but not all consumer recorders are able to connect to a PC.

2) Consumer recorders generally don’t have many of the additional features such as author ID and write protection.

3) These recorders generally have built in memory that is fixed to certain amount that cannot be expanded.

4) These recorders are generally not compatible Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

When purchasing a digital voice recorder consider the differences between consumer models and professional models.  Don’t pay too much for features you will not use and get the recorder that the right features for you!
